    outdoor christmas tree lighting

i am shooting an outdoor x-mas tree lighting scene. i want the characters' faces to be easily visible, and to have a generally 'warm' look. it will be a sort of outdoor party, thoroughly lit, and am not particularly concerned with source-specific realism. also, for the shot of the christmas...

legal question: showing another company's product

what are the rules surrounding the use of a product in a commercial film? i am making a film for a contest/money, and it will feature one of those cardboard hanging air freshener trees rather prominently (not especially positively). only one company makes them (i thought they were generic)...

Indie Film Tech Tip: China Lanterns

i went to the hardware store and answered my above question, so no need to worry about that. scott mentioned wrapping a gel around a lightbulb for color. i am using a 300 watt utility bulb, and feel like this would melt right through a gel, ruining both it and the bulb in the process. how might...

    lighting a party scene

i am going to be shooting a house/fraternity party scene, probably on a canon xl-1. the room is supposed to be at least somewhat dark, but i still want it to look good. it seems like the pros still use a lot of light in these circumstances, even for a dimly lit or nightclub look. any thoughts...

Indie Film Tech Tip: China Lanterns

big bad bulbs big bad bulbs i've been looking at light bulbs, and you can get a rather large incandescent bulb (calld a "ps35 mogul base") sometimes used in churches and other large industrial settings. cost is about 9 dollars. they come in 300 or 500 watts, and i was wondering if i could...

Reproducing the bluish glow from a TV set

thanks for all the help. what we ended up doing was taking an lcd projector as our key (which actually puts quite a bit of light, im not sure in terms of watts, though), and diffusing it through a thin white plastic shopping bag. this gave us the look we wanted. [/img]

Reproducing the bluish glow from a TV set

thanks so much for the help so far. i am liking the idea of a video projector mixed in with a few practicals. i was wondering about the Opal or Hampshire frost, though-- is there a way to rig up a simillar effect on the cheap (ie: making a frame out of common household items/materials.) I can...

Reproducing the bluish glow from a TV set

i want to light a scene in which most of the light comes from the blue/white glow of a tv set (off-camera). this is actually a still project, so i am not worried about the flicker, or animating the light in any way. i just want it to look like it's coming from a tv set. a blue gel seems like it...
