    Photography Books?

Does anyone have any great photography books they can recommend? Something along the lines of lighting techniques and just a reference I can use. BTW, shooting stills is my way of practicing cinematography (the cheap way). Also, should I just keep practicing with my 1982 canon camera, or...

    Help

Okay, so I graduated and got my BA in film and it's been 9 months now and I'm feeling very discouraged about myself right now. All my friends are working in the industry, such as PA work on tv shows and I can't for the life of me find any work. I look around every day and send out resumes, cover...

    What is this thing called?...

Don't really know the name of it, but if I were to guess what it does is, gives the director a look at what lens he should use for DOF purposes and just angles he may want to look at before shooting film.

    Jobs of a DP

Hi I posted this in D Mullens' section, but I know he may be busy often and not have a chance to reply as soon as one would like. What are your thoughts? Hello, I'm having a little problem being definitive about this. As a DP what exactly are the duties involved? I know the obvious ones like...

    Duties of a DP?

Hello, I'm having a little problem being definitive about this. As a DP what exactly are the duties involved? I know the obvious ones like Lighting/camera planning, but my question is more directed towards the duties where the director if also involved like in shot list. Now it's is my...

    Anamorphic lens super 16mm

I'm looking for a an aspect ratio lens for a super 16mm that looks like 1.85, hell even 2.40:1 if I can find it. I've only shot on regular 16mm (1.37), and want a nice wide aspect for my senior project. Not for the look, but my production demands it due to my compositions. Is super 16mm kind...

    Good Lighting in the Dark

    Good Lighting in the Dark

Do you have access to some HMI's? Blast a 1200k to make it look like moonlight from one end being careful to filter out any unwanted light from the subject using outside decor such as trees or lamp post.

    my XL2 GOT WET!!!!

Thank Goodness!! I decided to take matters into my own hands and take apart the camera. I saw a little bit of salty water in there dried up. I cleaned it up, and still no dice. Put everything back together, tried it again, and nothing. Just as I was about to put it back in the case, I tried it...

    my XL2 GOT WET!!!!

OMG, i was at the beach today filming a little something. I don't go in the water mind you, but the water begins to stream up more to the sand as the sun sets. When all of a sudden water comes up a bit higher to the shore and splashes on me feet and up to the back of the camera. AAhhh!! camera...

    Your thoughts Mr. Mullen

Hi, just one other question. How would I expose daylight to give a night moonlight effect? I would definitely like to try that out this weekend. Thanks. Oh, and I don't think I mentioned above, yea, for my shoot, I would like to have the subject look very low lit. So just light him up with...

    Your thoughts Mr. Mullen

Hi. I apologize for my confusing questions. But you hit right on the dot. I am talking about a regular room light that has a fan coming from the ceiling. I wanted to imitate that light on my subject. So a light coming from above, but I know the lamp burns different from the lights I would use...

    Your thoughts Mr. Mullen

Hi, I posted in the cinematography and lighting section, but haven't got one hit. Could you possibly take a look at the post made by me on lighting a black room. This will be on film, possibly 500ASA, but if you can recommend something else, I'm open. Thanks. I would repost it here, but I think...

    lighting a Black Room

I'm reposting this here, since this project is for my cinematography class and it might receive more hits. Hi, new here. Small intro - I'm a film student aspiring to be a writer/director. I'm going to be shooting a 4 min short this weekend. I will be using my room as the principle set. Now...
