Tascam DA P1 and digital transfer

Hi again,

I recently aquirred a Tascam DA-P1, student fire sale (used) 90$, and I have some questions about DAT tape and digital transfer. Anyways after searching the web I have found information stating that you can use a S/PDIF cord to connect the P1 to a digital recording device. I'm pretty sure its not that simple so I was just wondering if anyone had any information on how to make this work. Or any other info on getting DAT tape audio into Final Cut and matching to HDV.

Thanks.

I apologize for the delay in responding, and thank you for posting. Great find on the DA-P1! It has a digital S/PDIF output, so you can connect it to an audio interface with an S/PDIF input and record the DAT playback into your computer in real time, keeping it fully digital.

Record at the DAT's sample rate (often 48 kHz), then import the files into Final Cut and sync them to the HDV footage with a slate or clap, or with automatic waveform syncing. Our Sound forum is a good place to ask more.
