student filmmaker horror story, need advice & give warni

Problem Problem My advice is put this all behind you and go forward. There is too much negative energy all around this project. Get away from it. I have been there, done that as a student filmmaker, as a college prof, and as a producer/director in the real world (over 25 years). Stuff like...

    Composer Needed

I am producing a series of instructional videos for teachers on the subject of special education. The budget is very small but I have a little money for music and instead of the usual royalty-free tracks I am considering working with a composer for a theme and background tracks. My thought is...

Exporting Tiffs in both HDV and DVNTSC windows

Exporting Stills from HDV Exporting Stills from HDV If I understand your problem correctly, you need to create a true 1920 X 1080, square pixel timeline from which to export. Open a new sequence, go into the sequence settings and set them for 1920 X 1080, square pixels. Now drag the clip for...

    (Help)Updating firewire drivers?(HELP ASAP)

Camera Camera The problem you are experiencing could be caused by a number of factors. You are going to have to research this yourself because there is no way I can ask you all of the proper questions. It has to be the person working with the system that is doing the research...for instance...

    alert message "no communication"

Camera Camera It means that FCP does not recognize your camera. If the camera has worked before with your FCP system, try restarting your computer leaving the camera attached and turned on. If the camera has never worked before, it is probably because the camera is not compatible with the...

    (Help)Updating firewire drivers?(HELP ASAP)

Camera Camera Not all cameras work with FCP. You did not mention which version of FCP you are running but I checked the Apple Support site and the gs300 in not on the compatible lists for FCP 3, 4.0, or 4.1. I couldn't find the camera list for FCP HD but I am sure it is available somewhere...

    Shotgun Mic not working

Mic Problem Mic Problem I used a GL1 for years and as far as I know there is now "attachment option." There is an attenuator option that reduces the audio level when on. Try truning it off and see if you get audio. JimT

Multiple camera clips and color correction

I had a similar problem recently. I was shooting two cameras and lost a battery and could not stop a long scene to re-white balance. I found it best to find something white in both scenes and match the whites with color correction. It is still hit and miss but it worked fine. Good luck. JimT

Tripod Recommendation for Sony HDR-FX1 HDV camcorder?

Tripod Tripod I have two Z1's and I use Sachtler DV-2II/2 tripod systems and I am very happy with them. Very sturdy, smooth movement, slide adjustment for balancing camera weight. The "quick" release plate takes a little getting used to but after a while it works OK. I do a lot of training...

    canon GL2

GL2 GL2 Until this year when I switched over to HDV, I used a GL1 for all my productions (mostly docs and training videos). The GL2 is basically the same camera but with sound controls (a big, positive difference). I found the GL1 to be a very reliable and durable piece of equipment. It...

Job Hunt Job Hunt Hi, I thought you might like a reaction from a different perspective. I have my own production company and over the years I have hired many editors for various types of projects. It could be that your not being selected for a job has less to do with you and more to do with...

I'm sure and easy audio fix, but...???!!

Capture Sound Capture Sound Ok, here is another idea. Choose Edit > Preferences, click on the capture tab, click on audio. On the right wide of the window you should see "Speaker"--make sure it is set for the speaker to be on while recording. By the way, this is from Lisa Brenneis' Final...
