You can get low end apps very cheap and even the higher end apps are affordable today. You could also freelance this part out, if uncomfy animating and compositing it yourself. PM me if you want a bid.

    Need advice for my career

It's all in who ya know no matter what industry you are in. Initiative starts by getting to know people. Of course that means starting at little to nothing in this industry (my first paying job was $3.35 an hour as a cameraman for the 5,6 and 10 oclcok news). So be it. The alternative is to skip...

    Animation of helicopter rotors

Your angle will be changing constantly so you'll really be adding work this way. It'd be much quicker to actually animate it in 3D than to track a blurred rotar in various angles.

    Paranormal Activity

Yes. It was marketed well, I'll give it that. Anything so cheap to make that brings in so much money cannot be denied as a success but not many will be able to call this a good movie. I love it though. A guy grabs a prosumer camera, shoots at one location with a cast of only 3, edits on Vegas...

    Paranormal Activity

my wife and I watched it last night. Horrible. Boring. Bad acting. Uneventful. If one of my students turned this in as a final video (they are all under the age of 15), I'd give em a C for effort and recomend they cut it in less than half the running time... and that they troll local community...

How do I roll a car?

take 1 will be the skid or impact. take 2 will be the car hitting the flip ramp (just a ramp on one side of the car) and rolling. You'll find the cut point in post. If the car is caged, you can drive it. If not, just line it up and ghost ride that old hooptie. Do be careful though. No stunt goes...

    Flying without a harness

Outside of chroma keying and keyframing, you could just suggest the fly with quick editing. Let the actor jump toward destination 1, cut as he jumps. Let me jump to destination 1 again repositioned at destination 1 and cut as he's landing there. repeat. A quick motion blur transition with the...

Adding color to section of black and white video

+1 for an amimated mask in AE. You can also key in colors in Premiere by making track 1 B&W and using keys on track 2 with the same video clip.

    Avid or Final cut pro

Short answer... FCP. By far more bang for the buck and Apple will be araound to support much longer than Avid... who just laid off a swarm of folks. That said... wanna buy an Avid Adrenaline? Media Composer 2.5.2, BCC AVX, Genarts Sapphire effects, After Effects, Photoshop, Avid DVDit, Sorenson...

    Color Correction

I use Genarts Sapphire's film effect on almost every project, even if just for color correction. I love it. It turn otherwise flat video into quite appealing footage.

    CGI Helicopters

I don't know what you are animating with but there are several online 3D model libraries for all apps. I found this one with a quick search: http://www.the3dstudio.com/product_details.aspx?id_product=203182&product=3d-model-AH6-Little-Bird

180° rule or not 180° rule???

Rules are meant to be broken... especialy wher art is concerned. Make it look perfect per situation. Discard all limitations.

    Pitching

Let the buyer worry about the budget. Your job right now is to highlight the pros of the project. They'll always point out the cons. I'd not mention budget in pitching stages. If it comes up, you are veeery close to victory. Be flexible shuold they offer less than you envisioned. You can stick...

    Pitching

Today it's veeery hard to sell an idea. You almost have to come in with a sizzle reel in hand just to be heard. We all have ideas. Thats not what most agencies and networks are looking for today. They want good inexpensive shows. Offer that and you are much better off than folks handing ideas away.
