what is the correct format for screenwriting. Is there like a guide everyone uses? can someone post a sample of what is commonly used today?
Update, November 2026
Screenplays follow a standard format: 12-point Courier, about one page per minute of screen time, scene headings like INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT, action lines, character names above dialogue, and parentheticals used sparingly. Screenwriting software such as Final Draft, WriterDuet, Fade In and Celtx formats for you. Reading produced screenplays is the best way to see the format in action.
