Headshot

So if I am filming someone getting shot, let's say through the head, I know how to make blood splurt out the back of the head with compressed air and tubes, but how do you make it look like the bullet is hitting the forehead? I mean, the back of the head can't just blow out, there has to be an entry wound... how would you do that?

I apologize for the delay in responding, and thank you for posting. Entry wounds are usually done with makeup: a small pre-made prosthetic wound applied to the forehead and hidden with makeup or by the cut, revealed in the next shot. Many filmmakers now create the hit digitally with compositing tools in After Effects or Fusion, which is safer and easier to repeat. Never use pyrotechnic squibs without a licensed effects technician. Our makeup and VFX forums are good places to learn more.
