Update, November 2026
Robot and creature effects like these are built with a mix of practical animatronics, motion control and digital VFX. Today, many productions start with a practical element on set, so actors have something real to react to, and then extend it digitally. If you're planning a robot for a student film, a simple practical prop plus compositing in After Effects, Fusion or Blender can go a long way.

awesome but daunting

awesome but daunting

amazing stuff but the amount of real work that went into that is really disconerting. They got the look they were hoping for but for the 1 second steering wheel they made a life-size rig with tons of stuff and they still had to composite it together! Too much work, special effects need to be able to do more of that in post realistically.
