Update, November 2026
When the videographer is also the sound recordist, plan for it. Use a wireless lav on your subject and an on-camera shotgun as backup, set levels before you roll, and always wear headphones. A small external recorder gives you a safety track if the camera audio fails.

Members who shoot and record sound at the same time: what's in your one-person kit right now? Many solo shooters today use a compact wireless lav system that records a backup in the transmitter, plus a shotgun on the camera. Share your setup and any lessons learned the hard way.
