Hey all,

I'm a student filmmaker from the Boston area, and I will be moving out to LA for a few months this summer. I was wondering how students out that way find locations for shooting. Over here it's sometimes as easy as just asking, but it seems that everyone over there wants like $10k a day just to use their apartment. I'm looking for a loft/bright open area space for an afternoon and I was wondering if anyone had any advice about finding such a space at an affordable cost. I could travel outside of the LA county area, but I just don't know where to go. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

In LA, students often find affordable locations through their school, friends and family, small businesses that support student work, and location listing sites. Ask during off-hours when a business is closed, offer a credit and a thank-you screening, and always carry proof of insurance and a permit if needed.
