Motion Picture Madlibs?

Is there a term for taking random footage and adding your own sounds to make a story that it was never intended for?

Some examples MIGHT be "Extreme Elimination Challenge," "America's Funniest Home Video," and or found on various other comedys.

I apologize for the delay in responding, and thank you for posting. Great question! When existing footage gets new dialogue or sound to tell a completely different story, it's often called a redub or gag dub. A classic example is Woody Allen's What's Up, Tiger Lily? (1966), which took a Japanese spy film and replaced the dialogue with comedy.

When footage is recut and rearranged into a new story, people also call it a mashup or found-footage film. It's a fun exercise in editing and sound design, just remember that footage you don't own may need permission or a fair-use review if you plan to share it publicly. Our Editing & Post-production and Sound forums are good places to share experiments like this.
