Quality slow motion?

I know how to make things go in slow motion in Vegas 4.0, its just really
bad quality (compared to the actual shot itself). It turns out choppy and
rough which really doesn't create a dramatic effect at all. I'm shooting with
a panasonic DVX-100 in 24P. I don't know if its Vegas or the frame rate I'm
shooting at or what. Would shooting at 60FPS improve it? Eh?

I apologize for the delay in responding, and thank you for posting. Yes, shooting at a higher frame rate will make a big difference. When you slow down 24p footage, the editor has to repeat or blend frames, which looks choppy. Footage shot at 60 fps can be played back at 24 fps for smooth slow motion, about 40 percent speed.

Today most cameras and phones shoot 60 or 120 fps. Many editors also offer optical flow (frame interpolation), which creates in-between frames and can help with footage you've already shot. Our Editing & Post-production forum is a great place to ask more.
