Update, November 2026
Sound Devices' notes on using recorders with the RED ONE are a reminder of a lesson that still applies: for professional work, record sound on a dedicated recorder with timecode or a slate, and use camera audio as a reference track only.

Today's cameras record far better audio than the RED ONE did, but the dual-system habit is still worth keeping. When you can, jam-sync timecode between your recorder and camera, and still clap a slate on every take as a backup. Members, what recorder are you using on set right now, and do you sync by timecode or by waveform in your editor?
