This is just a wild guess:


[1] The real life stuff
Rig the scene with small explosions and actual real life stuff to happen.
Shoot the scene with all the mayhem going on on very high fps.

[2] The CG part
Bring a fat stack of cash and hire a 3D studio
Match the footage in a 3D program like Maya.
Carefully analyse all explosions and stuff. Basicly backwardsly engineering
the shot.

example, a ball hits the window. Put a ball going through the window, previous shot, show a ball heading towards the window, previous shot, show a ball exploding etc.

the CG stuff can look pretty spectacular.
