What's The Cheapest HD Camera?

[Ira]

My 11-year-old is into digital still work big time and he now wants to get into video. I'm into 16mm film and know NOTHING about this stuff.

He wants a camera for Xmas, but I DO know enough that I can't afford to get him a good semi-Pro model until a few months later.

What camera can I get at a reasonable price that will give him a few months of use/learning, and which I can inherit to just play around with when I get him the real thing? Of course, he'll need something for uploading to the computer for editing.

I apologize for the delay in responding, and thank you for posting. For an 11-year-old starting video, a smartphone or a simple camera that shoots HD is perfect for learning framing, editing and sound. Add a small tripod and a clip-on mic, and free DaVinci Resolve or CapCut for editing. Since you know 16mm, teaching composition and light will help him more than any camera. I hope he's still making films!
